Pure and Gentle?

March 31, 2009

Like many of you, we were pretty upset to hear that the CSC has found some pretty icky carginogens in baby products.

“When products for babies are labeled ‘gentle’ and ‘pure,’ parents expect that they are just that,” says Senator Diane Feinstein (D-Calif.). “To think that cancer-causing chemicals are contaminating baby shampoos and lotions is horrifying. I intend to soon introduce legislation requiring greater oversight of our cosmetics industry. We need to ensure that the chemicals that are used in our everyday products are safe.”

We hope Senator Feinstein follows up with this legislation.

It still amazes us that “trusted” products, big name products, the products you see and use every day, are putting 1,4-dioxane (which is a carcinogen, meaning, a cancer-causing agent) and formaldehyde in their products.

One of my favorite blogs, The Mommy Files has a list of products to avoid here.

The good news is that, until this kind of thing is regulated by our government, you have a choice.
